Thai-Muslim dishes you should order

Khao mok gai, roti mataba, massaman, and other plates that are not just “Thai food without pork”.

Khao mok gai

Thai-Muslim chicken biryani: yellow rice, fried shallots, cucumber relish, and a sharp dipping sauce. Chatuchak’s Saman Islam and Haroon-area stalls are the classic hunt.

Roti mataba

Stuffed roti, often with egg and minced meat, plus sweet roti for dessert. Roti Mataba on Phra Athit is the famous old room.

Massaman and oxtail

Muslim trade routes gave Thailand massaman curry. Usman on Sukhumvit 22 is the well-known sit-down version.

Street rules

Many Bangkok stalls use pork or lard even when the dish looks vegetarian. In mixed markets, choose stalls that are fully Muslim-run, not a single “no pork” fried rice on a shared grill.
